PrimSeedPower Connects Marine Biotechnology and Seed Priming in Gran Canaria

6–8 October 2026 • Gran Canaria, Spain

PrimSeedPower (COST Action CA24156) brought together researchers and stakeholders for a three-day meeting hosted at the Clúster Marítimo de Canarias (CMC), exploring opportunities to connect marine biotechnology with sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture.

Scientific discussions focused on the potential of algae-derived compounds for seed and plant priming, alongside challenges related to validation, scale-up and practical application. A multidisciplinary mock-up exercise helped participants identify knowledge gaps, complementary expertise and emerging collaboration pathways.

Visits to the Banco Español de Algas (BEA) and PLOCAN provided further opportunities for scientific exchange. Discussions with BEA explored potential joint research using algal products for seed and plant priming, while exchanges with PLOCAN considered collaboration under future Horizon Europe calls.

The meeting strengthened connections between marine and agricultural research communities and identified promising directions for future joint activities and proposals.
